Relief Manager

About the role

As a Relief Care Home Manager, you will provide dependable leadership and operational oversight to ensure the continued delivery of safe, effective, caring, responsive and well-led services. You will support homes by maintaining stability, consistency and quality of care during periods of management absence or recruitment, ensuring residents continue to receive high standards of person-centred care.

You will take full responsibility for the day-to-day running of the home, ensuring regulatory, quality and performance expectations are met. This includes maintaining oversight of care delivery, staffing, governance and compliance, while ensuring residents’ wellbeing remains the central focus of all decision-making.

You will lead teams with confidence and clarity, reinforcing safe practice, quality standards and professional accountability. You will identify areas for improvement through observation, audit and feedback, taking proportionate and timely action to ensure standards are maintained. Regulatory compliance, risk management and quality assurance will be embedded within your approach, supporting service continuity and reliability.

Your leadership will be visible, calm and supportive, providing reassurance to staff and promoting consistency in practice. You will ensure systems, processes and documentation are accurate, up to date and compliant, enabling the service to operate smoothly and safely.

About You

You will be an experienced care professional with supervisory or management experience supporting adults with care and support needs. You will hold an S/NVQ Level 4 qualification in Health & Social Care (or equivalent) and demonstrate a sound understanding of regulatory requirements and best practice.

You will bring strong leadership and organisational skills, with the ability to manage competing priorities while maintaining oversight of quality and safety. You will be confident in mentoring and guiding teams, supporting staff to work effectively and maintain high standards of care.

You will be conscientious in your approach to record-keeping, audits and compliance, recognising the importance of accurate documentation in delivering safe and well-led services. Your communication style will be respectful, clear and professional, ensuring residents, relatives and colleagues feel listened to and supported.
