HC-One awarded National Gold Standard for Nursing Preceptorship Programme

HC-One is the first care home provider to achieve a Gold Standard Quality Mark for its Nursing Preceptorship Programme. This recognition highlights HC-One's commitment to supporting Nurses, building their confidence and skills in our care homes across England, Scotland and Wales.

A supportive team that invests in your success

The ‘Nursing Preceptorship Programme’ was launched by HC-One in September 2023, designed to develop and support new Nurses.

Preceptorships have been described as more important than ever, with the Nursing and Midwifery Council (NMC) advocating for a period of Preceptorship for newly-qualified Nurses and those registering in the UK for the first time.

Designed by the Senior Nursing Team at HC-One, the Programme is aligned with the NMC's Principles of Preceptorship, the NHS Gold Standard Framework for Preceptorship and Scotland’s Flying Start Programme.

In just six months, the Nursing Preceptorship Programme has already:

  • Supported c.120 Preceptors
  • Produced c.60 Preceptees

Experienced mentorship

HC-One’s Nursing Preceptorship Programme draws on a network of experienced Nurses who act as mentors, guiding and supporting Newly Qualified Nurses and Nursing Associates (Preceptees) as they embark on their professional journeys.

The programme offers an individualised learning approach and flexible timelines, making sure each Preceptee has the support they need to flourish.

Supporting future leaders

Before becoming a Nurse in charge of a shift, Preceptees work with their Preceptor to sign off on their clinical and leadership competencies.

But the support remains throughout your Nursing career with HC-One, which has a robust support network of experienced Nurses. This includes an on-call system where a more Senior Nurse is available 24/7 to offer advice or support to new Nurses on shift.

Continuous learning and development opportunities

After completing the Preceptorship Programme, Nurses continue to be supported by HC-One’s award-winning Learning and Development team to grow and progress in their careers.

HC-One is proud to support and develop our talented Nurses throughout their careers. But not only that, this comprehensive programme gives Newly Qualified Nurses the chance to benefit from competitive starting salaries, and a range of career pathways.

Tracey Humphrey

Senior Nurse HC-One, explains the importance of the Nursing Preceptorship Programme, and how much this award means to the team

“We’re extremely proud to be the first care home provider to be awarded the National Preceptorship Interim Quality Mark. This is testament to the commitment for excellent Preceptorship from our Nurses, regional and operations teams, who have supported and encouraged the development and progress of our Preceptorship Programme.”

“Preceptorship has been described in recent Nursing press as more important than ever to ensure a variety of Nurses at all levels are supported and encouraged to develop their confidence and competence. Our team has already supported 136 Nurses in the organisation through our workshop to become Preceptors.”

Desiree Cox

National Preceptorship Programme Lead at NHS England, said:

“Congratulations to HC-One on achieving the National Preceptorship Interim Quality Mark for Nursing. This is an excellent achievement, particularly as you are the first social care organisation to achieve the award, which demonstrates a clear commitment in caring for our newly registered Nurses.”

HC-One will continue to roll out the programme nationally, with two jobs currently available across Scotland and two across England.
