Interview Hints and Tips

Congratulations! You’re about to attend an interview for a career with HC-One – The Kind Care Company. When we meet you, we want to see you at your best so here’s some help and guidance to help you along the way!

So the most important thing here is preparation. Good preparation will steady any pre-interview nerves and allow you to give the best possible account of yourself on the day.

Here are some suggestions to help you plan:

Before your Interview

Plan your journey so you know how, where and when you’ll arrive.

Make a note of who you are due to see and what position they hold within HC-One.

Do your research on HC-One. Looking at our website will give you plenty of insight and can often answer some of your questions.

Do you need to bring anything? For example: Certificates of Achievement, References, Identification, it’s always good to check!

Do you need to prepare anything? For example: a presentation.

Re-read your application and make sure you can talk confidently about everything.

Preparation

Collate any examples or qualifications that could enhance your interview.

Try and put yourself in the interviewer's shoes – what job related questions would you ask?

Write down all the relevant skills and attributes you feel you have for the role.

Note down any questions you’d like to ask us, remember interviews are two way!

Practice your interview with somebody who is able to give you honest feedback.

Make sure you have thought of your dress code.

During the Interview

Introduce yourself clearly and be prepared to have a general conversation with the interviewer until you are settled.

Body language is important during an interview, so ensure you have good eye contact, are sitting facing the interviewer and are listening intently?

Make notes if you need to, as long as you ask permission from the interviewer, this can sometimes demonstrate active listening skills.

Make sure your personality comes through as we want to see the ‘real you’.

This interview is as much for you as it is for us, you need to make sure that HC-One is the right choice for you and somewhere that you’d love to work and fit in, so feel free to ask us anything.

Try not to be too nervous, take a breath, and compose yourself before answering any questions.

Don’t be afraid to ask the interviewer if there are any questions you don’t fully understand.

At the end of the interview, if we don’t explain the next steps, feel free to ask, so you understand what will happen next.

After the Interview

If you have the contact details of your interviewer, you could email them to say thank you for their time and that it was nice to meet them and look forward to hearing the outcome.

If you are unsuccessful it’s important to understand why, so don’t be afraid to ask the interviewer for feedback.

Frequently Answered Quetions

We’re asked many questions about working for HC-One. We’ve tried to help you by answering the most frequently asked ones.

How often is the website updated with jobs?

The vacancies on our site are all “live” and are updated on a daily basis. They remain on the website until a candidate has been selected and has confirmed their acceptance of our offer.

If I am not successful can I apply again?

You can, but to maximise your chance of success we recommend that you spend some time working on any feedback you received before reapplying.

I applied for a job but haven’t had a response yet, who should I contact?

Everyone who applies to us automatically receives an acknowledgement email. It is also our policy to reply to every candidate within two weeks of the job being filled to let them know exactly where they stand even if they haven’t been successful.

Forgotten your password?

If you've forgotten your password simply click on the 'Forgot your password?' link at the bottom of the log in page and enter either the email address you registered with or your username. A password recovery email will then be sent to that address.

What are job alerts?

Job alerts are emails that are sent to your email address when a role comes up that matches the preferences you gave us when you registered. In order to set these up or change them, you just need to create a log in and then set up alerts by telling us what type of position you're looking for and where. Our system will then look out for suitable matches and when one becomes available we'll send you an email to let you know.

How do I search for jobs?

You can do this on the Search & Apply page. You don't need to log in to search vacancies but if you don't you won't be able to apply or save any of the roles that you find. Create a log in if you're thinking of applying. You are then presented with a number of search criteria, so you can search by location, by business unit, by position type, the type of role (Full-time or Part-time). You don't have to select all of these and can search by each criteria or any combination of them to find the role that suits you best.

Are there training and development opportunities?

HC-One is committed to Talent Excellence and has a variety of policies, programmes and tools designed to support team members with developing their capability to be the best they can be in their current role and to help prepare them to take on bigger and better roles if that is what they want to do.

Can I upload any documents to support my application?

Yes, you can upload supporting documents during the online application process. We’d recommend you also bring these with you if you are invited to meet with us.

What will happen after I have applied?

After you have completed an application you will receive an email to confirm that we have received your application. The business area that you have applied to is able to see your details and the role that you have applied for on our system. If your application is unsuccessful we’ll let you know as soon as possible. If you have applied for a vacancy and have not received a response within 28 days, please contact us directly to follow up your application.
